Will dotNetBB work with my hosting service?
dotNetBB was designed to be installed on either local or remote systems. dotNetBB
should be able to run on any site that meets the following minimum system requirements
:
- Microsoft IIS v5.0 or newer web server
- Microsoft SQL Server v2000 or v2005 database
- Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1
- Approximately 5mb hard drive space for web files (.aspx and .dll files)
- Approximately 2.5Mb of database space per 1000 forum postings (not including attachments).
What are the system requirements for dotNetBB?
dotNetBB has the following minimum system requirements :

Will dotNetBB work on web platforms other than Microsoft IIS?
While the .NET Framework is in process of being ported to *NIX platforms by groups
like the
Mono Project it has
only been tested on Microsoft platforms.
What database can I use with dotNetBB?
Currently dotNetBB supports only the following database server options :
- Microsoft SQL Server v2000
- Microsoft SQL Server v2005
- Microsoft SQL Server v2005 Express
All database licensing is separate from any dotNetBB licensing. dotNetBB does NOT
include licensing to run any version of Microsoft SQL Server. Additional information
regarding use of MSDE can be found on
Microsoft's Site.
Can I download a demo version of dotNetBB to test on my server?
Due to the nature of software and the ability to decompile or view the source code,
dotNetBB is not offered in a trial version. To evaluate the features included in
the software, we have set up a demo forum for test out. You can access this forum
by going to
http://demo.dotnetbb.com.
Using "admin" for both the user name and password, you can sample many of the included
administration tools in addition to the forum itself.
Can I remove the "Forum powered by dotNetBB" copyright text?
No, all copyright messages in both the source and in the templates may not be modified
or removed. For complete information regarding this, please read our
license agreement.
NOTE : We do offer a special "Branding Free" license option that would allow the
copyright information to be removed legally. Please contact us for pricing and information.
Does the software include a license for the .NET framework or Microsoft
SQL Server?
The .NET framework does not require any additional licensing beyond your standard
Windows Operating System license.
Microsoft SQL Server REQUIRES a separate license available from
Microsoft.
How can I get a copy of the source code used in dotNetBB?
The Standard with Full Source and Enterprise versions include the source code for
the compiled library. You are free to modify the source in accordance with the included
license agreements. Please note that while we will attempt to support all installations
of dotNetBB, user modifications of the source code may not be 100% compatible with
future release builds of dotNetBB.
Do you offer a version of dotNetBB in any language other than English?
Yes, v2.4 supports multiple languages. Currently the forums ships with U.S. English,
Portugal Portugues and Latin American Spanish language packs. Additional language
packs will be made available to customers as they become available.
Can I change the appearance of my dotNetBB forum?
All versions of dotNetBB Forums include a simple to modify, skinnable design. The
site can be modified by editing the included .aspx pages, HTML templates and Cascading
Style Sheets to fit your site design requirements.
